LIVING ON PURPOSE (PART 2)
Choices – God has given us choices and decisions to make since the very beginning of time.
“ I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse; therefore, you shall choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,- so you and your descendants may live.” Deuteronomy 30:19 AMP
What we do will affect our children and our grandchildren. The choices and decisions we make can open the door to the enemy in not only our lives but the lives of our descendants. What kind of example are we being to our children? Are we faithful to attend church?
“But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15
God is still asking us today as individuals and as a church to choose life and to make decisions that please Him and that show our desire to serve Him.
“You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: ‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.’ Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:4-7
LIVING ON PURPOSE (PART 1)
The manifest Presence of God should be the goal of every church. But we must know that God’s manifest presence isn’t just going to happen. We have to be purposeful about our services – and about our individual lives.
Purpose is defined as the quality of being determined to do or achieve something.
Aristotle said, “Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives. Choice, not chance, determines your destiny.”
Whether we realize it or not, the choices we make are seeds that we are sowing, and we will reap a harvest – whether its catering to the flesh - or yielding to the Spirit. What we feed will grow.
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” - Galatians 6:7-9 NKJV
“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.” Galatians 5:16-17 NKJV
